PARENTING AND FAMILY PLANNING

INTRODUCTION:

Parenting is a divine assignment given by God. Children are a heritage from the Lord, and parents have the responsibility to raise them in the fear of God. Likewise, family planning is essential for responsible parenting, ensuring that children are nurtured in a stable and godly environment. In this sermon, we will explore biblical principles on parenting and family planning.

1. CHILDREN ARE GOD’S HERITAGE

  • a) Children are a blessing from the Lord (Psalm 127:3-5)
    • God entrusts children to parents to nurture and guide them.
  • b) Parents are stewards of their children (1 Samuel 1:27-28)
    • Like Hannah, we must dedicate our children to God.
  • c) Parenting requires wisdom and responsibility (Proverbs 29:15)
    • Discipline and instruction shape a child’s character.
  • d) A godly home produces godly children (2 Timothy 1:5)
    • The faith of parents influences the next generation.
  • e) Biblical Example: Abraham
    • God chose Abraham because he would command his children to follow God (Genesis 18:19).

2. RAISING GODLY CHILDREN

  • a) Teach them God’s word diligently (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)
    • Parents should consistently instruct their children in righteousness.
  • b) Discipline with love and wisdom (Proverbs 13:24)
    • Correction should build character, not break the spirit.
  • c) Model a godly lifestyle (1 Corinthians 11:1)
    • Children learn more from what they see than what they hear.
  • d) Pray for and with your children (Job 1:5)
    • Interceding for children secures their future.
  • e) Biblical Example: Timothy
    • Timothy was influenced by the faith of his mother and grandmother (2 Timothy 1:5).

3. THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF PARENTS

  • a) Provide for the family’s needs (1 Timothy 5:8)
    • Parents must work to ensure the well-being of their household.
  • b) Create a loving and secure home (Colossians 3:21)
    • Children thrive in an environment of love and affirmation.
  • c) Balance discipline with encouragement (Ephesians 6:4)
    • Avoid provoking children to anger, but train them in the Lord.
  • d) Prepare children for their future (Proverbs 22:6)
    • Parenting should include teaching life skills and responsibility.
  • e) Biblical Example: Joseph
    • Joseph’s upbringing prepared him to handle leadership and challenges (Genesis 37-50).

4. FAMILY PLANNING AND RESPONSIBLE PARENTHOOD

  • a) God expects wisdom in parenting (Proverbs 24:3)
    • Planning ensures children receive proper care and attention.
  • b) Be fruitful, but also responsible (Genesis 1:28)
    • God’s command to be fruitful includes managing resources wisely.
  • c) Seek God's guidance in family planning (James 1:5)
    • Decisions should be made with wisdom and prayer.
  • d) Family size should align with ability to provide (Luke 14:28)
    • Financial and emotional readiness should be considered.
  • e) Biblical Example: Jacob and His Household
    • Jacob's large family required careful management and provision (Genesis 30:1-24).

5. RAISING A FAMILY IN THE FEAR OF GOD

  • a) Make God the foundation of your home (Joshua 24:15)
    • Families should commit to serving God together.
  • b) Guard your home from ungodly influences (Proverbs 4:23)
    • Protect children from negative spiritual and moral influences.
  • c) Encourage unity and love among siblings (Psalm 133:1)
    • A peaceful home fosters godly relationships.
  • d) Prepare children to be responsible citizens (Titus 2:7-8)
    • Teach honesty, diligence, and integrity.
  • e) Biblical Example: Noah’s Family
    • Noah’s faithfulness led to the salvation of his household (Genesis 7:1).

CONCLUSION:

Parenting is a divine responsibility that requires wisdom, love, and discipline. God expects parents to raise their children in His ways while also planning responsibly for their future. By relying on biblical principles, prayer, and godly wisdom, families can thrive and glorify God.

  9. We declare that our homes shall be filled with Your presence.
  10. Lord, help us to be examples of righteousness to our children.

PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS:

  1. Your children shall be a blessing and not a burden!
  2. The Lord will give you wisdom to nurture a godly home!
  3. Your family shall be a testimony of divine order and peace!
  4. No weapon formed against your children shall prosper!
  5. Your children shall walk in the fear of the Lord!
  6. The Lord shall provide for all your family needs!
  7. Your home shall be a place of love, joy, and righteousness!
  8. God will give you wisdom in family planning and parenting!
  9. Your household shall be preserved from evil influences!
  10. Your children shall be mighty and fulfil their divine purpose!

COMMUNICATION AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION IN MARRIAGE

INTRODUCTION:

Communication is the foundation of any strong marriage. Without effective communication, misunderstandings arise, leading to conflicts that can weaken the bond between spouses. Conflict in marriage is inevitable, but how couples handle disagreements determines whether their relationship will grow stronger or suffer damage. God's Word provides wisdom on how to communicate effectively and resolve conflicts in a way that honours Him.

1. THE IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNICATION IN MARRIAGE

  • a) Communication builds understanding (Proverbs 4:7)
    • When couples communicate openly, they develop deeper understanding and trust.
  • b) Honest and loving speech strengthens relationships (Ephesians 4:15)
    • Speaking the truth in love promotes unity in marriage.
  • c) Listening is as important as speaking (James 1:19)
    • A good listener avoids unnecessary arguments and hurt feelings.
  • d) Words should bring life, not destruction (Proverbs 18:21)
    • Words have power; they should be used to encourage, not to tear down.
  • e) Biblical Example: Isaac and Rebekah
    • Poor communication between Isaac and Rebekah led to family division (Genesis 27:6-13).

2. BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES FOR EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION

  • a) Speak with wisdom and kindness (Proverbs 31:26)
    • A soft and wise response can prevent unnecessary conflicts.
  • b) Avoid harsh words and insults (Proverbs 15:1)
    • A gentle answer turns away anger, but harsh words cause more strife.
  • c) Be slow to anger and quick to listen (James 1:19-20)
    • Rushing to speak or getting angry easily leads to misunderstandings.
  • d) Communicate with love, not bitterness (Ephesians 4:31-32)
    • Forgiveness and kindness should guide all communication.
  • e) Biblical Example: The Shunammite Woman and Her Husband
    • Their calm and respectful communication helped maintain peace in their home (2 Kings 4:8-10).

3. HANDLING CONFLICTS IN A GODLY WAY

  • a) Do not let anger control you (Ephesians 4:26)
    • Settle disputes quickly and do not let them linger overnight.
  • b) Be willing to apologise and forgive (Colossians 3:13)
    • Forgiveness restores peace and strengthens love.
  • c) Seek solutions, not blame (Philippians 2:3-4)
    • Focus on resolving the issue rather than proving who is right.
  • d) Use prayer as a tool for reconciliation (Matthew 18:19)
    • Couples who pray together find strength to overcome conflicts.
  • e) Biblical Example: Abraham and Lot
    • Abraham resolved conflict peacefully with Lot by prioritising peace over personal gain (Genesis 13:8-9).

4. AVOIDING COMMON COMMUNICATION BREAKDOWNS

  • a) Do not ignore or suppress issues (Proverbs 28:13)
    • Hiding problems leads to resentment and unresolved anger.
  • b) Beware of assumptions and misinterpretations (Proverbs 3:5-6)
    • Clarify issues instead of jumping to conclusions.
  • c) Avoid bringing up past mistakes (Isaiah 43:18)
    • Focusing on past wrongs prevents healing and growth.
  • d) Do not involve outsiders unnecessarily (Matthew 18:15)
    • Marriage conflicts should first be handled privately between spouses.
  • e) Biblical Example: Job and His Wife
    • Job’s wife reacted negatively to their crisis, showing poor communication under stress (Job 2:9-10).

5. BUILDING A STRONGER MARRIAGE THROUGH COMMUNICATION

  • a) Make time for meaningful conversations (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)
    • Regular discussions strengthen emotional connection.
  • b) Encourage and appreciate one another (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
    • Words of encouragement uplift and strengthen marital bonds.
  • c) Express love in words and actions (Song of Solomon 2:16)
    • Spouses should frequently affirm their love and commitment.
  • d) Commit to ongoing growth and learning (Proverbs 1:5)
    • Couples should continually seek ways to improve their communication.
  • e) Biblical Example: Aquila and Priscilla
    • They worked together as a couple in love and unity, showing great teamwork (Acts 18:24-26).

CONCLUSION:

A marriage thrives when both spouses commit to effective communication and peaceful conflict resolution. By following biblical principles, couples can avoid unnecessary strife and build a relationship that glorifies God. Let us strive to be patient, loving, and wise in our words and actions.

  3. Let peace reign in my home, in Jesus’ name.
  4. Every spirit of anger and misunderstanding, be cast out.

  6. Let my words bring healing and encouragement in my marriage.
  7. Father, help us to resolve conflicts peacefully and quickly.
  8. Destroy every plan of the enemy to bring division into my home.
  9. Lord, teach us to forgive and love one another unconditionally.
  10. May my marriage be a testimony of divine unity and peace.

PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS:

  1. Your marriage shall be filled with peace and understanding!
  2. Every spirit of miscommunication and strife is broken!
  3. The Lord shall give you wisdom to handle every conflict!
  4. Your home shall be a dwelling place of love and harmony!
  5. You shall speak words that build, not words that destroy!
  6. Every plan of the enemy to create confusion in your marriage is cancelled!
  7. God will give you the grace to forgive and let go of past hurts!
  8. Your marriage shall be stronger and better each day!
  9. The love of God will fill your home like never before!
  10. You shall experience a new level of unity and joy in your marriage!
