Description: God delights in settling His children maritally, granting them peace, joy, and fruitfulness through His divine order for marriage.
INTRODUCTION:
Marriage is one of the oldest institutions established by God Himself. In the Garden of Eden, God declared, “It is not good for man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18). This shows that marital settlement is not a human invention but a divine design. God’s plan for marriage is that man and woman should live together in covenant love, companionship, and fruitfulness.
Unfortunately, many believers today struggle with marital delays, disappointments, broken relationships, and battles that hinder their settlement. These are often the works of the enemy, who hates godly marriages because they are foundational to the family and to kingdom advancement. But thanks be to God, who has promised that none shall lack their mate (Isaiah 34:16). He is the God who settles His children maritally.
Marital settlement is not just about finding a spouse; it is about finding the one God has prepared for you, and living in peace, joy, and fulfillment within His covenant. In this study, we will explore how God brings marital settlement, the hindrances that must be broken, and how to walk in His promises concerning marriage.
1. GOD IS THE AUTHOR OF MARRIAGE
God Himself instituted marriage, and He alone has the power to settle His children maritally.
a. Marriage was God’s idea – Genesis 2:18. God declared it is not good for man to be alone, and He provided the helper fit for him.
b. Marriage is honorable – Hebrews 13:4. God honours marriage, and when entered His way, it brings blessing.
c. God sets the solitary in families – Psalm 68:6. No child of God is destined to remain stranded or unsettled maritally.
d. Divine guidance in marriage – Proverbs 19:14. Houses and riches are inherited, but a prudent spouse comes from the Lord.
Biblical Example: Adam and Eve – God Himself orchestrated the first marriage by bringing Eve to Adam.
2. HINDRANCES TO MARITAL SETTLEMENT
Many face challenges that delay or hinder their marital breakthrough, but they can be overcome in Christ.
a. Foundational altars and curses – Judges 6:25. Evil family altars can fight against settlement, but they can be destroyed in Christ.
b. Wrong associations – 1 Corinthians 15:33. Evil company corrupts good morals and can mislead in marital choices.
c. Spiritual blindness – 2 Corinthians 4:4. The enemy blinds some from recognizing their God-ordained spouse.
d. Fear and unbelief – 2 Timothy 1:7. Fear of failure, rejection, or disappointment often holds people back.
Biblical Example: Rachel in Genesis 29 experienced delay because of family manipulation, but God eventually settled her.
3. GOD’S PROMISE OF MARITAL SETTLEMENT
The Scriptures abound with God’s assurance to settle His children in marriage.
a. None shall lack their mate – Isaiah 34:16. God’s word guarantees divine pairing for His children.
b. God answers prayers for settlement – Genesis 24:12-15. Abraham’s servant prayed and God led him to Rebekah.
c. Marriage brings favour – Proverbs 18:22. Finding a spouse is not just companionship but a release of divine favour.
d. God makes all things beautiful in His time – Ecclesiastes 3:11. There is divine timing for every marital settlement.
Biblical Example: Isaac and Rebekah – God orchestrated their meeting in Genesis 24 through divine direction and prayer.
4. STEPS TO EXPERIENCE MARITAL SETTLEMENT
Believers must align with God’s word and apply spiritual principles to experience marital settlement.
a. Surrender to God’s will – Romans 12:2. Allow God’s perfect will to prevail over personal desires.
b. Prayer and fasting – Matthew 7:7. Asking and seeking God unlocks marital doors.
c. Living in holiness – Hebrews 12:14. Purity and righteousness attract divine favour in marriage.
d. Faith and patience – Hebrews 6:12. Faith in God’s promises and patience ensure manifestation.
Biblical Example: Hannah – though barren, she prayed until God remembered her and gave her Samuel (1 Samuel 1).
CONCLUSION:
Marital settlement is the will of God for His children. He who established marriage in the beginning is still settling men and women today. No matter the delays, hindrances, or battles, God’s promises remain sure: “None shall lack their mate.”
As you trust in the Lord, walk in holiness, pray fervently, and surrender to His perfect will, your marital settlement shall manifest. Believe God’s word, for He will surely bring His promises to pass in your life.
