INTRODUCTION:

A wedding is a joyous and significant event that marks the beginning of a marital journey. While marriage is a lifelong covenant, the wedding is a one-day event that requires careful planning to honour God, reflect love, and avoid unnecessary stress. Proper wedding planning ensures a smooth and memorable celebration while staying within biblical principles and financial wisdom.

1. SPIRITUAL PREPARATION

  • a) Seeking God's Guidance (Proverbs 3:5-6)
The wedding should be planned prayerfully, seeking God's wisdom in every decision.

  • b) Understanding the Purpose of a Wedding (Genesis 2:24)
A wedding is not just a social gathering but a sacred covenant before God and witnesses.

  • c) Choosing a Godly Partner (2 Corinthians 6:14)
A Christian wedding should reflect the union of two believers who share the same faith.

  • d) Keeping the Wedding Honourable (Hebrews 13:4)
The wedding should uphold purity and righteousness, avoiding worldly excesses.

  • e) Biblical Example: The Wedding at Cana (John 2:1-11)
Jesus attended and performed His first miracle at a wedding, showing His approval of godly celebrations.

2. FINANCIAL PLANNING

  • a) Budgeting Wisely (Luke 14:28)
A wedding should be planned within financial means to avoid unnecessary debt.

  • b) Prioritising Essentials (Proverbs 21:5)
Focus on necessary expenses such as venue, attire, and food, while avoiding extravagance.

  • c) Seeking Financial Support with Wisdom (Ecclesiastes 7:12)
If needed, seek help from family or the church, but avoid dependence on borrowing.

  • d) Practising Contentment (1 Timothy 6:6-8)
A simple, honourable wedding is better than an extravagant one that causes financial strain.

  • e) Biblical Example: The Widow’s Mite (Mark 12:41-44)
This teaches that God values sincere effort rather than outward show.

3. CHOOSING THE RIGHT VENUE AND OFFICIANT

  • a) A Church or Honourable Venue (Psalm 122:1)
A Christian wedding should be held in a place that honours God.

  • b) Selecting a Godly Officiant (Malachi 2:14-15)
The minister officiating should uphold biblical marriage values.

  • c) Considering Guest Accommodation (Romans 12:13)
The comfort of guests should be factored into the planning.

  • d) Arranging for Legal Requirements (Romans 13:1)
Marriage should be conducted according to the laws of the land and the church.

  • e) Biblical Example: Boaz and Ruth’s Marriage (Ruth 4:9-11)
Their union followed due process before witnesses.

4. SELECTING ATTIRE AND PLANNING THE CEREMONY

  • a) Dressing Modestly and Honourably (1 Timothy 2:9-10)
Wedding attire should reflect decency and respect for God.

  • b) Choosing Godly Music and Worship (Psalm 150:1-6)
The ceremony should be filled with music that glorifies God.

  • c) Planning the Order of Events (1 Corinthians 14:40)
The wedding programme should be well-structured and orderly.

  • d) Ensuring a Christ-Centred Ceremony (Colossians 3:17)
Every part of the wedding should reflect Christ’s presence.

  • e) Biblical Example: The Parable of the Wedding Feast (Matthew 22:1-14)
Jesus used a wedding to illustrate the kingdom of God, showing its importance.

5. PREPARING FOR A PEACEFUL TRANSITION INTO MARRIAGE

  • a) Building Strong Communication (Ephesians 4:29)
The couple should discuss expectations and plans for life after the wedding.

  • b) Seeking Pre-Marital Counselling (Proverbs 11:14)
Guidance from spiritual leaders helps in laying a good foundation.

  • c) Understanding the Roles in Marriage (Ephesians 5:22-33)
Each partner should embrace biblical responsibilities for a successful union.

  • d) Praying for a Fruitful Marriage (Philippians 4:6-7)
Prayer should continue beyond the wedding day for a lasting marriage.

  • e) Biblical Example: Isaac and Rebekah’s Marriage (Genesis 24:67)
Their union was built on prayer, divine guidance, and love.
